FireFall

The Yosemite Firefall was a summer time event that began in 1872 and continued for almost a century, in which burning hot embers were spilled from the top of Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park to the valley 3,000 feet below. From a distance it appeared as a glowing waterfall. When the fire was ready, the crew at Glacier Point would yell, " Helloooo, Camp Curry!" and the camp below would answer, "Let the fire fall!"  In July 1968 the Park Service, despite howls from the public, decided to end the event as a safety measure. I was lucky to see it as a small child when my parents vacationed there one summer and stayed in Camp Curry.

This whimsical painting done in acrylic and copper foil is a memorial to it and my childhood.
